Furnishings of an Urbankind

25th Oct 2010 News Comments Off

URBANKIND is a sort of physical mash-up of the art that you see on the streets, and the sleek retro furniture you see for sale in the shops that proudly adorn graffitied shutters.  Admittedly, putting a ‘street’ artist in front of a tabletop instead of an exterior wall does turn the tables a bit, but I think it is certainly a direction to be explored by any artist or enthusiast who embraces the obvious market that has been growing over the past few years.  As long as people maintain their integrity, I say why not?  Artists such as Andrew McAtee and Heavy Artillery reveal bespoke designs on a range of hand-selected furniture.  Interested to see how it all translates?  Come to the Brick Lane launch on Thursday and see for yourself… before the surrounding market stalls start selling poor renditions of the idea to unknowing tourists to go with their graffiti coasters.
